The end of frienships

Recently I had to make the very hard decision of telling a friend I could no longer be close to her.
It is very hard to let go of someone you have such cherished memories with, but sometimes you have to let someone go so you can grow and evolve as a person.

I spoke out against someone who was being a bully, and my friend who is friends with the bully failed to support me. Ultimately her silence is what killed our friendship. I did not realize our friendship was dead until she suggested I be silent too. When I spoke out, she left me standing alone, and so I had to break away from her.

I used to get very sad when I could no longer be friends with lots of people I had grown up with. My dad always reminds me that the best friendships aren't always about longevity, but your strength of character.

This is my favorite quote I feel reflects that:

"When you are choosing your friends, don't be short changed by choosing personality over character."
W. Somerset Maugham

Another I found relatable:

"In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."
Martin Luther King, Jr.

Always speak out, lovely ladies, even if it means you are standing alone.
